A really great game! Adorable characters, some funny dialogue too. My only issue was I wished it was longer, but what was here was amazing and having little secrets at the end was a nice touch.
I originally thought about adding lots and lots of different islands with villages to build. But I think that would make the first island feel a lot less special and the connections with the villagers less meaningful. That could have turned the experience into a checklist. I wanted to keep it condensed to make it more personal and memorable.
I completely understand keeping it to one island and agree it would have dulled the shine of the first one. The best way in my eyes would to add new secret areas like the temple and the clouds, those parts really felt special to me.
Either way it was an amazing game and makes me long to make a cozy game myself.

I did play old version and it felt WAY TO SHORT for how fun it was... I even 100% it I actually felt very disappointed it was that short but hopefully with the newer features I can try to only play a little bit each day so I don't kinda waste the experience in a sitting.... But anyway it's one the best homebrew games ever especially when you play as a happy circle with stick limbs and grow your village of other Happy colored circles! C: :3 <3
Well, the main game of the Deluxe version isn't really any longer. Just more polished. But there's a bit of additional post-game content. Hope you will enjoy your time as a little circle with stick limbs again 😄
I loved this game. I played it on my game boy on a real cozy Brazilian coastal village. I think the world needs the message you created throughout this game, specially in the Global North.
You know… in the first 10min of gameplay I suspected the dev was German, and a good person, because the entire narrative is the complete opposite of the awful experience I have with common Germans and German authorities, including all the prejudice I have been through when traveling to your country a couple of times. I appreciated mainly the detail about the archaeologist and teaching the importance of respecting native cultural heritage.
I'm really sorry to hear you had a bad experience travelling to Germany 😔 Which places have you been to? Just out of curiosity - what revealed me as a German? 🤔😅
Hi! I visited several places in 2008, including the Rhine Valley (Bonn, Koblenz, Andernach, and small towns). I have also been on Berlin in 2018, and crossed the country by train to Bonn. I have also been to Magdeburg. I have a clearly Semitic Middle Eastern appearance and experienced prejudice all over the country on both trips. But I also suffer prejudice academically, by reading awful comments of some terrible German criminalsscientists. But, of course, I notice you could only be German because the history of the game is perfectly the German society upside down. I even laughed at how you touch every concerning ethical misbehaviour, typical of what is going on in Germany. Other cultures in Europe are more respectful towards other nations' cultures, and especially, intellectual and cultural property. But Germany and the UK lead the list of nations that most break international laws in Europe to commit cultural crimes against foreign peoples and cultures. I'm unable to solve the temple mystery. I understand that I have to use the magically summoned clouds to jump in the sky and find something up there, yet I only find one place where I can do that - to the right of the village, in the screen where the ghost appears. Alas I'm unable to get anywhere in the sky - I can jump some clouds but I'm unable to reach anything. Is the solution up there or is there another place? Thank you!

I loved it! It's like a bite-sized version of A Short Hike. You meet interesting characters in a lovely world with great music and atmosphere that becomes better with each person you help. This is of my favorite games now for sure.
I hope they make more games like it or maybe a sequel would be very cool :)

My original plan was to explore what would happen if I mix gameplay elements of Animal Crossing and Super Mario. Maybe the creators of A Short Hike had a similar approach 😄

I loaded it up on my EZFLASH JR on GBC and played through it again and all the way up to the secret message. That was fun to decipher🤗
I thought it was an awesome and complete game when I helped everyone earlier but hey... more secrets! Awesome. I love the bunny ears btw.
On actual Gameboy it took me a while to get used to the B is JUMP and A is USE control scheme but idk it grew on me. It's a simple enough game mechanically that it gave it an added challenge and skill arc that I ended up appreciating.
There was a bit of slowdown in the village at the end on real GBC but I mean really it's like Clock Town at that point lol.
Oh and that little slow burn at the beginning lol. You mean I gotta get ANOTHER coconut all the way over there? I imagined a little Qbert expletive cloud popping up at that point lol.
Wonderful game. It truly lefted me fascinated by how simple it was while make me feel so relaxed through most of it.
But still not understand if there's more to do at the final mysterious temple and are an bug where if press much times repeatedly 'Select' button it gonna get more slower in FPS. Besides of that 10/10 title.~ 💖✨
Does the "select slowdown" only persist while you keep pressing select repeatedly? Or is it still there when you stop pressing select?
(It's definitely caused by the cloud summoning ability. Currently it does not check whether the clouds have already been summoned. And summoning clouds over and over again takes a lot of processing power 😄)

I have set the original version to hidden, as it's basically the same game, just with less content, more muted colors and less polished. I don't want people to play the wrong rom by mistake and get disappointed 😅
There should still be a link to the original version for archival reasons, similar to how programmers put links to legacy versions. Perhaps a free download link to it, labelled as original or legacy? You could also put an additional startup screen labelling it as the non-deluxe. If you don’t want to, you should remove the deluxe from the name, as people are going to want to know where the original is.

If there wasn't anything in the light, you have to go somewhere else to make something appear there. There are two characters in the game that sometimes give you a hint about where to go 😊
I'm afraid, that’s the unfortunate reality when playing in your browser. Not entirely sure where the browser stores the save but it is only temporary. Once you close your browser, you’ll lose your save. Nothing I can do about that on my end. Maybe some browsers handle that differently. But I don't know of any. The only way to have a permanent save is by playing the ROM on a Game Boy Color emulator or on original hardware.

I was thinking there might be a hidden condition, since the some of the characters have given hints that you can climb up there. So I've tried the following things to climb up there:
I have tried to climb up there with the crown, the crown with 99 coconuts, then I found the hint where the secret shop was, found the secret shop. Remembered the hero hint, so I bought the hero mask from the secret shop, tried to climb with the hero mask and the hero mask with 99 coconuts.
Wow, you really tried a lot of things 😯 I hope you won't be disappointed by what you can get there after all that 😅
Here is a mostly spoiler-free hint: Take the legend that someone told you about the temple as literal as possible.
I think I'm going to phrase it differently to make it more obvious in a future update:
"A hero who climbed onto a cloud to jump into the sky was blessed with the gift of that temple."
And I think I might add a little something more to get as a reward in the future. Reading all the things you've been through, I feel like the reward should be more substantial 😅
Ah thank you very much! To be honest, I totally forgot I had the ability to summon clouds. So I just speedran through the game (I had closed my browser so I had lost my save) to see the extra content. I have also gotten the secret unicorn outfit, not quite sure what triggered it to spawn, but it looks really cool. So totally worth it!
The funny thing is that I found out about the possibility of clouds by chance when, trying to figure out why the character stopped responding to keystrokes, I decided to change the keyboard layout, and then I saw a cloud appear next to me. I also found the secret shop purely by accident, just running everywhere. I even received my award after I fulfilled the prerequisite for receiving it (I hope you understand what I mean, because I'm specifically trying not to talk about it directly), but I just don't understand what to do next. I mean, I got my reward, I found the secret shop, and there must be something else... But what?
I agree that it feels like there must be something else. There wasn't. But now there is. It's not much but I made the reward feel more rewarding with a small update now 😊

Apparently the z/x inputs are case sensitive. So if those buttons aren't working that might be the issue. It tripped me up.
